Working with Page Builder in Ingeniux CMS 10

With web pages getting more complex all the time, schemas (page types) are becoming large and unwieldy, making it very difficult to manage a consistent experience. We introduced Page Builder in Ingeniux CMS version 9 to accelerate the design experience. But, that was just the beginning...

Ingeniux Page Builder is a visual design tool for building and editing page layouts for your website. You don't need knowledge of web-development to use Page Builder; we built it for administrators and power users who want to create new page layouts (templates) or change existing web pages easily.

In Ingeniux CMS 10, we have enhanced Page Builder to enable you to change or adapt the design of web pages.

Separating Content Creation from Content Preparation

Ingeniux CMS separates content from presentation. Page Builder is the tool that lets you define how content is presented. It uses a grid-based layout system which you use to drag and drop widgets on a page and organize them the way you want.

The grid layout is modeled closely to how Ingeniux CMS defines content blocks. This enables you to reuse existing structured content defined in the CMS already, and create new content elements depending on the design you want to create.

100% Open Standard. 100% Open.

What's your favorite web framework: Bootstrap 2 or 3, Materialize, Foundation, Angular, React? Perhaps you have defined your own, or you need the flexibility to support what comes next.

Web frameworks for sites and single page applications are evolving faster than any CMS on the market. This is why we made Page Builder an open system that allows you to plug in any framework. We ship with libraries for leading frameworks, but it's easy to add new ones at any time.

While most other CMS page design tools generate proprietary mark up using controls, do not support approaches like MVC, and are limited in the widgets and layouts they support, Ingeniux is based completely on open, responsive frameworks – from the ground up.

This means you get 100% design control, can better support accessibility and multi-channel reuse, and have the freedom to advance your creative with newest and greatest frameworks available on the web.

Building New Page Layouts

There are two main elements used to design pages: Layout Units and Content Units.

  • Layout units are pre-designed containers that act as building blocks for creating presentation page designs. These units don't contain content. Instead, they are placeholders for content.
  • Content units define specific HTML rendering for specific fields on a page. These fields could be a field schema or a standard field that is dropped into a layout.

Ingeniux provides several layouts out the box, or you can build a custom layout that meets your specific requirements. There are also a number of prebuilt content units (form fields and components) to choose for your design. To create new content units requires administration access.

Page Builder uses responsive design frameworks including Bootstrap and Foundation to ensure your web pages are mobile friendly.

Creating Forms with Page Builder

With Page Builder, you can also create forms for your website. You select a template and then add the Visual Form Builder found under Content Units. Use the Form Builder to select a preconfigured form you want to add to your page or create a new form from scratch.

Focusing on the Best Design

The goal behind Page Builder is to provide you with the best tool for visually designing your web experience without the need to understand how to write a line of code. Many organizations don't have time to wait for a developer to create new templates or landing pages for their site. Page Builder empowers them to adapt and expand their web experience when they need to, not when IT is ready.
